Special Guest Speaker for 09/20/16: Darlene Underwood

Darlene Underwood was our special guest speaker for this months writers meeting. She shared about her book publishing experience, from start to finish, with Subsidiary Publishing. She chose to publish her book through Xulan Publishing which is a Christian Publishing Company and printed her books through Pathway Press, in Cleveland, TN.
When you decide on a Subsidiary Publishing company to publish your books, you will choose from different packages which offer different services for you to choose from. They will give your and ISBN which includes a scanner code box which can be scanned at any bookstore and your price information will be credited to you. You get 100% of your royalties with the package she chose. She also chose to have a non-exclusive contract, which gave her exclusive rights to her book.
Xulan Publishing also gave her a diagnostic review of her book before she got it printed. This gave her an overview of what needed to be fixed and what her next step should be. She also mentioned that there is an active author fee of $35.00/year with Xulan to keep an active status with the publishing company.
Darlene will be having a book signing at LifeWay Bookstore on October 22 from 11-2 pm. Go out and support our local author!

Our second segment of the meeting was about software and resources. Sharon Moore shared about a gaming software that's called Realm Works. It was designed for gaming characters, but this will also help fiction authors keep their different characters and plot settings organized. She also talked a little about Scrivener. This is a software that is very highly recommended for authors. It will keep your manuscript in order and formats it for printing.

I want to thank both of these ladies for sharing all of this great information with us. Always plan to take good notes when you attend these meetings. There is so much to learn.
